Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are technical explanations and descriptions of products and are provided by manufacturers to authorized individuals requesting them. Unfortunately, many parents, school officials, etc. do not request them because of time and urgency: when a child has head lice, they need to use a product NOW! Often a parent will not even read the directions, let alone wait for the arrival of the sheets. When they are requested and reviewed, it is commonly found that they are long and in many cases, difficult to understand. The tragic result of this is that our children have pesticides applied to their heads and we remain unaware of the true dangers that accompany many of these head lice products.

To aid you in the discovery of this important information, the MSDS for Lindane Shampoo, Nix and Rid were obtained, reviewed and a brief sampling of their statements and cautions were summarized and are listed below. Knowing the potential dangers to our children and our environment is the first step in making wiser choices to keep pesticides off of our children's heads.

HEALTH HAZARDS
Lindane Shampoo: Excessive exposure has been reported to show adverse Central Nervous System (CNS) affects.
Nix: Contact may cause mild to moderate eye and skin irritation. Ingestion and inhalation may cause nervous system effects.

PERSONAL PROTECTION
Lindane Shampoo: wear chemical resistant gloves and safety glasses

SPILL, LEAK and DISPOSAL

Exposure to Isopropyl Alcohol in high concentrations may produce symptoms of central nervous system depressions such as headaches, dizziness, drowsiness and incoordination. Very high concentrations may also produce eye, nose and throat irritation.

SUMMARY
The MSDS can reveal some startling information. We often think that when a shampoo is purchased from the shelf without a prescription, it is automatically assumed to be safe. As you can see, this is definitely not the case.

We encourage you to review Lice B Gone's MSDS and compare it to the ones of your choice. You will quickly discover that this product is truly a safe and effective alternative.
